Rotkäppchen

from Märchenbrunnen Series by Ron Abram

"Memory is not an instrument for surveying the past but its theatre."
- Walter Benjamin, Berlin Childhood around 1900

Video Documentation of project that combines printmaking with sculpture and film. The work is a Queer retelling of Brothers Grimm fairy tales through prints, sculpture and animated films based on etchings. The project's inspiration comes from the parallel histories of architect Ludwig Hoffman's Märchenbrunnen Im Volkspark Friedrichshain, celebrating its 100th birthday in 2013. Surviving two World Wars, the DDR and the fall of the Berlin wall, the East Berlin park celebrates joy and life, and for many of us, the indelible magic of Queer spirit.
